One Stop for Parents

Parents are an integral part of the partnership between home and school. Parents reinforce lessons learned in school relating not only to academic subjects, but also to character, values, and behavior. The School supports values and cultural patterns that are learned at home, endeavoring to balance the needs of individual students and families with those of the School community.

All parents are automatically members of the Harley Parent Council and encouraged to participate in activities at the School as they are able.

This page is designed for quick access to some of our most often requested parent documents and information.

Faculty & Staff Information

HAC Athletics

Since 1972, Harley has offered a combined interscholastic sports program in Grades 7-12 with Allendale Columbia School, an N-12 independent school of 350 students located just a few minutes away. The HAC teams, as they are known, are affiliated with the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (Section V) and the Finger Lakes Athletic Association. The combined teams compete in soccer, volleyball, cross country, tennis, basketball, bowling, softball, track, swimming, baseball, and golf. Harley and Allendale Columbia have a “no cut” policy that encourages students to participate in one or more team sports.

A shuttle bus runs between the two campuses daily to transport student athletes for practices and home games. The arrangement allows the combined schools to field very competitive teams, which have captured more than 50 Section V titles.

School Closing Information

If the decision is made to close school either before or during the school day, families will be notified through the Emergency Notification System and announcements will be made on AM radio station WHAM 1180, on wham1180.com and on the voicemail greeting.

Busing is not provided in the event of closing during the school day. Lower School student will be released according to instructions on record from parents. Parents of students in Grades 5-12 will need to make alternative transportation arrangements for their children.

Because The Harley School’s students come from a wide geographic area and conditions can vary greatly, the School usually stays open unless weather conditions are severe. Parents should use their own judgment in deciding if conditions are safe for travel.

Absences and Lateness

Parents are asked to report tardiness or absence to the school Nurse by 8:10 a.m. Parents may call before school hours and leave a message at (585) 442-1770 ext. 1210. If the reason for the absence is not known before 9 a.m., the school nurse will follow up with a phone call to parents.

A parent should call each morning of a student's absence. If the length of absence can be specific on the first call, additional calls are not necessary.

Late students who arrive after 8:10 a.m. must sign in at the reception desk and bring a note from home unless the parent has called. Students are responsible for finding out any information they miss due to tardiness.

The first day a student returns to school following and absence or tardiness, he or she should bring a note signed by a parent or guardian explaining the absence. If it is not possible to send a note, please call the school nurse or division office.
