Admissions Process
The Harley School is a private school in Rochester, NY offering a college preparatory program for approximately 500 students in Nursery through 12th grade. Our rigorous academic programs and exceptional fine arts curriculum are coupled with unique offerings (hospice, glass making, chess, robotics), a commitment to community service, and a nurturing environment for students.

Admissions Process
Children from all families regardless of race, religion, or income are encouraged to apply for admissions. Harley enrolls new students throughout the year, if space is available. However, most classes do reach capacity and there are waitlists in many grades. The School strongly recommends that interested families apply for admissions early. The Admissions Committee begins accepting candidates in March.

How to Apply
To begin the admissions process, prospective families must complete The Harley School Application and Records Release Form and submit a $50 fee. The form may be downloaded from the box on the right.
Process for Nursery-Grade 4
  • Our teachers observe all Nursery candidates to determine their readiness for our program, their development and academic skills, and their level of maturity.
  • Kindergarten candidates visit the classroom and complete an Early Screening Inventory (ESI).
  • Candidates for Grades 1 through 4 visit the classroom and complete admissions testing during a school day.
  • A copy of current school records and a current teacher evaluation form is required for applicants.

Process for Grades 5-12

  1. Applicants visit the school for a day and are paired with a student host. They attend classes and meet other students, faculty, and staff.
  2. Candidates take entrance exams in English and math, and are interviewed by the Director of Admissions and the appropriate division head.
  3. A current transcript and any other relevant academic records must be provided.
  4. Three teacher recommendations are required: one in English, one in math, and a personal recommendation.
  5. Each candidate's interests, experience, aptitudes, character, motivation, maturity, and previous experiences are considered, along with academic records and teacher recommendations.
