Located in Brighton NY, and founded in 1917, Harley enrolls approximately 500 students in Nursery through Grade 12. Our rigorous academic programs and exceptional fine arts curriculum are combined with unique offerings (hospice, glass studio, biomimicry), a commitment to experiential service learning, a deep commitment to the centrality of the student voice, and a nurturing environment for young people. Extended Day/Vacation Camp Childcare Worker

The Harley School seeks a Childcare worker in the Extended Day/Vacation Camp program. Extended Day is part-time Monday – Friday, 2:50- 6:00 p.m. Vacation camp hours are usually during school holidays and maybe in addition to regular Extended Day hours. Salary starting at $15 per hour.

Qualifications:

  • Over 18.
  • Experience working with children 3 yrs. – 11 yrs.
  • Dependability, communication skills, and an excellent work ethic.
  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred but not required.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Creates a safe, friendly environment in the childcare area with quality supervision, focused attention, and caring service for the parents and their children.
  • Ensures registration and check-in/check-out procedures are followed.
  • Responds to each individual child’s needs promptly.
  • Supervises the use of toys and supplies and notifies the supervisor of supply needs, repairs, or replacements.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly area, picking up as needed and sanitizing toys as instructed.
  • Promotes a respectful community among the children, resolving conflict through appropriate words and actions.
  • Notifies supervisor of issues relating to each child (e.g. illness, crying, and conflict).
  • Promotes the health of all children by notifying the supervisor when child(ren) are ill and by being responsive to known health conditions such as allergies and asthma.
  • Exhibits good listening skills when conflict or discipline issues arise and problem solves professionally. Defers to the supervisor if issues need further resolution.
  • Reports any accidents or injuries immediately.

    Lifeguard

    The Harley School, a Nursery through Grade 12 independent school in Rochester, New York, with approximately 500 students, seeks a part-time (5-20 hours per week) lifeguard to create and maintain a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting safe swimming conditions in the Harley Pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with school policies and procedures. Pay range for this position is $16 – $20 per hour.

    Every candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to engaging in ongoing DE & I work, including their own professional growth, the integration of a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy, and continued learning opportunities.

    Competencies

    • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. 
    • Responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with school policies, procedures; completes related reports as required.
    • Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
    • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
    • Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
    • Performs all secondary duties in a timely manner as required for each shift.
    • Performs all lifeguard duties, including ability to lift people out of pool, perform CPR, scan pool to ensure safety of participants.
    • Maintains accurate records as required by the School land/or the state health department code.
    • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
    • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and for the duration of the shift.
    • Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
    • Attends Staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

    Requirements

    • Current lifeguard and first aid certification
    • CPR w/AED and First Aid
    • Water Safety Instructor certifications
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
    • Ability to be flexible; can “monitor and adjust” to promote optimal learning and a collegial atmosphere

    All Divisions – Instructional Substitutes

    The Harley School is seeking substitute teachers to provide per diem instructional services in various subject areas for its Lower, Middle and Upper School Divisions (Nursery (age 3) through Grade 12). Bachelors degree required. New York State teacher certification preferred, but not required. Candidates must be punctual and dependable; demonstrate professional demeanor; possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills; and the ability to interact effectively with faculty and students. Salary Range form $125 to $150 a day depending on experience.

    HAC Program Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach

    The Harley School and Allendale Columbia School (HAC) is currently accepting applications for a Program Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach. The modified swim season starts Monday, October 27th, 2025 and the varsity swimming and diving season is scheduled to begin Monday, November 17th, 2025.

    The Program Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach

    • Assists in overseeing, supporting and managing the modified, varsity boys and girls swimming and diving team
    • Assists the Modified and Varsity Head Coaches on planning, execution, coaching and management of the modified and varsity boys and girls swimming and diving teams
    • Provides direct support, coaching and management 15+ student-athletes during practices, travel, meets and invitationals
    • Keeps all student athletes safe and accounted for
    • Promotes an appreciation of physical activity, teamwork and sportsmanship while teaching the skills and techniques of swimming and/or diving
    • Motivates, encourages and provides constructive feedback to participating student-athletes in a positive and impactful way to help improve performances and the overall student-athlete basketball experience
    • Maintains a professional and positive attitude and demeanor in difficult situations
    • Engages and interacts with game officials in a respectful manner
    • Attends all pertinent workshops and meetings via HAC, the Genesee Region Swimming and Diving League, Section V and New York State Public High School Athletic Association relating to boys and girls swimming and diving and as assigned
    • Keeps the student-athlete perspective in focus and provides a swimming and diving experience that directly reflects the HAC mission statement and philosophy 
    • Ability to multitask in a busy environment
    • Is a role model for all student-athletes
    • Reports directly to the Head Varsity Swimming and Diving Coach and Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director

    Education/Preferred Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent or higher education
    • Previous swimming and/or diving experience as an athlete and/or interscholastic coach
    • Proficient in teaching and coaching the fundamentals of swimming and/or diving
    • CPR, First Aid, AED and Heads Up Concussion Certification (can be earned through HAC)
    • NYS Coaching License or NYS Temporary Coaching License
    • NYSED Fingerprinting clearance 
    • Effective interpersonal skills with middle and high school student-athletes and parents
    • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination

    Work Hours

    • Practices typically run 3:30 – 5:30 PM on weekdays (practice times will vary) and some Saturday practices 
    • Meet, invitational and practice work hours vary depending on scheduled meets and invitationals
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to support practices, athletic contests and team-building events

    Stipend Range

    • $2,500 – $3,000

    About HAC

    Allendale Columbia School and The Harley School maintain a joint athletic program to offer the best possible athletic options for student-athletes. By combining resources, student bodies, facilities, as well as faculty for coaching purposes, both schools can offer dynamic sports programs that fully support the physical, mental and social development of each student athlete.

    The HAC athletics program provides a variety of team sport experiences that help develop teamwork, sportsmanship and good citizenship, while establishing good habits that prepare students for the future.

    Our student athletes experience kinship and competition, while learning to win and lose gracefully. Positive life values are developed and the time management skills the students learn will benefit them for life.

    Athletics are a very important and meaningful aspect of both Allendale Columbia and The Harley School’s education. Participating in team sports allows students to learn discipline, while developing healthy habits and experiencing the camaraderie and sense of purpose that comes when participating on a team.

    Every student is encouraged to participate in a sport and HAC athletics provides opportunities at 3 different levels: modified, J.V. and varsity. When interscholastic competition begins in Middle School, our teams are all-inclusive, so every student who wants to play can be part of the team.
