Tiny House Project
Harley students building tiny houses for Peace Village.
In the City of Rochester, there is a sanctioned homeless encampment named Peace Village. One of our Middle School families volunteers there and the two brothers noticed several tiny houses at the encampment built by students from Andover, NY. They thought we should build one as well and approached Kima Enerson, our Maker Educator, about using our MakerSpace, which includes a woodshop, to help design and build a tiny house.
At this point, Kima has connected Middle School students who wanted to be involved with one of her Upper School classes to work together on this community build. Students are using TinkerCad to modify an existing design blueprint as well as their hand art skills to create a model, including paint colors and other details. Framing of the first house is taking place now at Harley.
Each home costs approximately $3,000 to build. If you are interested in helping to fund this project, please consider making a tax-deductible donation using the form below. Our students will build as many houses as we are able to secure funding to create. To make a donation by check, you can mail your check payable to The Harley School with Tiny House project in the memo line.
