Hello everyone,

As everything from classes to socializing has moved online, I wanted to point to several new resources we now have available for you.

Everything in One Place: Harley at Home

This page holds links to all of our resources, community sharing, COVID-19 information, remote learning links, and the Harley Help Forum, for any assistance you may need. Everything is gathered on this page: https://www.harleyschool.org/spaces/

  • New! Harley Daily Upload

Loaded with enrichment content, class projects, artwork and more. Bookmark our digital community place as we will be adding new content Monday-Friday. This is password protected and the password is athome2020. If you check the remember me box, you won’t need to enter the password again for two weeks. • New! Harley Help Forum

Need some help? Can’t figure out an IT issue? Want to share an idea? The Harley Community Forum is a shared place for all current Harley Families, Faculty/Staff, and Alums to do just that. To get started:

  • Sign in from your PC or iPad (the forum does not scale well to your mobile device)

  • Follow this link LINK or paste and cut harleyschool.org/forums into your browser.

  • Select Register

  • You will receive an email from WordPress to select a password (check your spam or promotions if you cannot locate the email)

  • Once you have your password set, go to the Forum, select Login and sign in using your new username and password.

There are a number of conversations already set up: General Discussion, Assistance Exchange, Technical Support, Homework Help and we will be adding conversations as time goes on.

Parents are encouraged to chime in and help each other. The forum will be moderated by Parent Council from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm each day. We will be offering help and answering questions. Students are encouraged to contact teachers through Schoology and email.

Lots to explore here—we hope you find it useful.

Best,

Larry

Students may create independent studies with supervising teachers throughout their Upper School experience or, during Grade 12, they can design Capstone projects—intensive collaborations with Harley faculty and off-campus mentors—involving rigorous academic study and culminating in public presentations. They are empowered to create their own curriculum, set goals, and work on time management skills in order to accomplish their objectives.

Independent Studies run the gamut from The Psychology of Sports to Furniture Design to The Neuroimaging of Alzheimer’s Disease. Capstones, meanwhile, are as diverse as the students who pursue them: Fictional Rochester, Autobiographical Art, Biomimicry Education, Organic Fuel, and Rochester Refugees.

Indicative of Upper School curiosity and creativity, pursuits such as these distinguish our graduates in college. Through deep dives of this sort, Harley students master more than speaking, writing, and computing: they learn to communicate, advocate, collaborate, organize, listen, and empathize.
