Among the five core elements of The Harley School mission is showing students how to care for the world and the people in it. This sense of community involvement is deeply rooted in the origins of the School, from the time in 1917 when a group of women got together and started “The University School of Rochester” for four-year-olds.

Jason Tahir ’11 was a scholar-athlete at The Harley School. While keeping his grade point average up, he was named the All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year for tennis in 2007, 2009, and 2011.

The culture at our school emphasizes empathy and civic engagement. Our upper school students have a 20-hour guideline for community service each year (though many exceed this)

Upper School Environmental Science – Vermicompost
Science students recently spent some time sorting vermicompost (“red wiggler” worm compost) to separate the worms, worm cocoons, and other bugs from the nutrient rich organic material (worm castings) that the worms created.
