Upper School

An Upper School Experience Like No Other

Harley’s Upper School isn’t just about preparing you for college; it’s about preparing you for life. We offer a rigorous curriculum that balances essential college prep courses like Calculus and AP European History with a wealth of exciting electives like “Philosophy and Ethics”, “Land Use and Environmental Laws”, and even “The Psychology of Happiness.” This unique blend allows you to discover and pursue your intellectual passions while developing the critical thinking and communication skills coveted by top universities.

University Partnerships

Harley offers a dual enrollment course with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Computer Programming; we also offer dual enrollment courses that enable students to earn Syracuse University (SU) credit with Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA).

Experiential Learning: Putting Knowledge into Action

At Harley, learning isn’t confined to classrooms. Our 7:1 student-to-faculty ratio fosters close relationships where teachers become mentors and guides. You’ll engage in stimulating discussions, debates, and workshops, learning to advocate for yourself and others. Our commitment to experiential learning extends beyond the classroom walls. Through programs like Horizons at Harley and the class, “Hospice”, you’ll gain valuable real-world experiences, developing skills in collaboration, problem-solving, and making a positive impact.

Independent Study & Capstone Projects: Own Your Learning Journey

Do your academic interests lie outside the traditional curriculum? Harley empowers you to take ownership of your learning. You can design your own independent study with a supervising faculty member, delving deeper into a specific subject that ignites your curiosity. In Grades 11 and 12, you can design a Capstone project – an intensive collaboration with faculty and off-campus mentors – culminating in a public presentation showcasing your research and findings. Past Capstone projects have explored topics as diverse as “Reusable Fashion” and “Organic Fuel,” reflecting the boundless talent and intellectual curiosity of our students.
