School Psychologist/Counselor

The Harley School, a Nursery through Grade 12 independent school in Rochester NY with approximately 500 students (www.harleyschool.org) seeks a full-time School Psychologist/Counselor to support the Lower School division (3-year olds – Grade 4).

The School Counselor/Psychologist will work with students, faculty, staff, parents and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections among home, school, and community.  This position promotes the social, academic, and emotional success of students.  Candidates already in private practice are encouraged to apply.

Salary range: $50,000 – $65,000, based on years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Offer expert consultation, direction, and support to faculty, staff, and families regarding children’s social-emotional growth, physical and emotional well-being, and academic strengths and differences
  • Serve as a resource and consultant on mental health, child/adolescent psychology, and learning differences; conduct in-service programs as requested
  • Evaluate students in crisis or at-risk to guide emergent problem-solving by faculty, staff and parents
  • Provide referrals to outside services and collaborate with school staff, parents, and outside professionals/agencies in planning to meet the needs of individual students
  • Provide wellness programs that help students develop healthy coping and decision-making skills

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work from an accredited institution of higher education; must possess or have the ability to obtain New York State Certification
  • Previous experience working with children and youth; experience in a school setting is preferred

  • The ability to interpret educational and psychological testing results and help others do so

    Early Childhood Teacher

    The Harley School is seeking applications from qualified persons for an early childhood teaching position in the Lower School for the 2026-27 school year.  The position involves team-teaching in the Early Childhood (Nursery) program. The Early Childhood teacher will work closely with a co-teacher, the Lower School division head, the faculty, and parents. 

    Salary range: $47,000 – $60,000, based on years of experience

    Qualifications   

    • A warm, caring individual who has demonstrated a specific interest in teaching young children through previous experience with this age group (3, 4 and 5-year olds).
    • Minimum of a BA, preferably in education, ideally with a concentration in early childhood or early childhood special education.

    • Understanding of early childhood development (socio-emotional, physical, cognitive) and a commitment to play-based pedagogy.

      Middle School Math Teacher

      The Harley School, a Nursery through Grade 12 independent school in Rochester, New York, with approximately 450 students, seeks a full-time Middle School Math teacher for 2026-2027 to support students in Grades 5-6. 

      The Harley School seeks a math teacher who brings strong content knowledge, a deep love of teaching mathematics, and a commitment to joyful, student-centered learning. The ideal candidate builds enthusiasm for number sense and helps students explore mathematical concepts through inquiry, discussion, and meaningful problem-solving. This teacher fosters confidence, curiosity, and a growth mindset, supporting students as they develop both skill and wonder in mathematics.

      In addition to teaching, this role includes advisory work that supports students’ social, emotional, and academic growth. The teacher collaborates closely with colleagues, advisors, and student support teams to care for student wellbeing and build strong, trusting relationships beyond the classroom. Through partnership and communication, the teacher helps create a supportive and responsive middle school community.

        Extended Day/Vacation Camp Childcare Worker

        The Harley School seeks a Childcare worker in the Extended Day/Vacation Camp program. Extended Day is part-time Monday – Friday, 2:50- 6:00 p.m. Vacation camp hours are usually during school holidays and maybe in addition to regular Extended Day hours. Salary starting at $15 per hour.

        Qualifications

        • Over 18
        • Experience working with children 3 yrs. – 11 yrs
        • Dependability, communication skills, and an excellent work ethic
        • Ability to accept guidance and supervision
        • Current CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred but not required
        • Must pass a criminal background check
        • Creates a safe, friendly environment in the childcare area with quality supervision, focused attention, and caring service for the parents and their children
        • Ensures registration and check-in/check-out procedures are followed
        • Responds to each individual child’s needs promptly
        • Supervises the use of toys and supplies and notifies the supervisor of supply needs, repairs, or replacements
        • Maintains a clean, orderly area, picking up as needed and sanitizing toys as instructed

        • Notifies supervisor of issues relating to each child (e.g. illness, crying, and conflict)

          Lifeguard

          The Harley School, a Nursery through Grade 12 independent school in Rochester, New York, with approximately 500 students, seeks a part-time (5-20 hours per week) lifeguard to create and maintain a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting safe swimming conditions in the Harley Pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with school policies and procedures. Pay range for this position is $16 – $20 per hour.

          Every candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to engaging in ongoing DE & I work, including their own professional growth, the integration of a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy, and continued learning opportunities.

          Responsibilities

          • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area 
          • Responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with school policies, procedures; completes related reports as required
          • Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner
          • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
          • Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others
          • Performs all secondary duties in a timely manner as required for each shift

          The Harley School is seeking substitute teachers to provide per diem instructional services in various subject areas for its Lower, Middle and Upper School Divisions (Nursery (age 3) through Grade 12). Bachelors degree required. New York State teacher certification preferred, but not required. Salary Range form $125 to $150 a day depending on experience.

          HAC Head Varsity Girls Tennis Coach

          HAC, the joint interscholastic athletic program of The Harley School and Allendale Columbia School, is currently accepting applications for a Head Varsity Girls Tennis Coach for the 2026 fall sports season

          The varsity fall season is scheduled to begin Monday, August 17, 2026 

          The Head Varsity Girls Tennis Coach is a crucial leader responsible for the overall direction, development, and management of the HAC girls tennis program, promoting the core values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth for all student-athletes.

          Key Responsibilities

          • Program Leadership: Serve as the head of the HAC girls tennis program, providing strategic vision, leadership, and support to the entire program, including the Modified and Junior Varsity (if applicable) coaches and staff
          • Instruction and Development: Plan, organize, and execute effective, high-quality practices and match strategies, proficiently teaching and coaching the fundamentals and advanced techniques and strategies of tennis.
          • Student-Athlete Management and Well-Being: Manage, supervise, and ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes (typically 9+) during practices, travel, matches, tournaments, and team activities.
          • Culture and Values: Act as a positive role model and mentor, promoting an appreciation of teamwork, sportsmanship, commitment, and physical activity.
          • Feedback, Motivation and Teaching: Motivate, encourage, and provide constructive, positive, and impactful feedback to participating student-athletes to improve individual performance and the overall tennis experience.

          Administrative Duties:

          • Lead and organize essential administrative tasks, including uniform and equipment distribution, inventory, and end-of-season collection.
          • Maintain accurate records for attendance, match reporting, and promptly complete required injury reports.
          • Lead the planning and execution of offseason program-building initiatives and workouts.

          Professional Conduct: 

          Maintain a professional, positive, and composed attitude and demeanor in all situations, particularly those involving high-pressure contests or difficult circumstances.

          Compliance and Reporting:

          • Attend all required league, Section V, and NYSPHSAA meetings.
          • Report directly to the Athletic Director(s) at both The Harley School and Allendale Columbia School.
          • Ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic and busy athletic environment.

          Required Qualifications & Experience

          • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred).
          • Previous experience as a tennis player and/or coach (High school varsity coaching experience is highly desirable).
          • Proficiency in teaching and coaching the fundamentals and strategy of tennis.
          • Must possess or be able to acquire the following certifications prior to the start of the season:
            • NYS Coaching License or NYS Temporary Coaching License.
            • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.
            • Heads Up Concussion Certification.
            • NFHS Implicit Bias Certification 
          • Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills when working with middle/high school student-athletes, parents, and school administration.

          Schedule and Compensation

          • Work Hours: Practices typically run from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM on weekdays, but practice times are subject to change.
          • Match and invitational and postseason hours vary significantly.
          • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required to support scheduled athletic contests, tournaments, and team-building events.
          • Stipend Range: $3,750 – $4,000 (commensurate with experience).

          HAC, the joint interscholastic athletic program of The Harley School and Allendale Columbia School, is currently accepting applications for a Head Modified Volleyball Coach for the 2026 fall sports season

          The modified fall season is scheduled to begin Monday, August 31st, 2026.

          The Head Modified Volleyball Coach is a foundational leader in the HAC volleyball pipeline. This role focuses on introducing the sport to 7th and 8th graders, fostering a love for the game, and promoting the core values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

          Key Responsibilities

          • Instruction & Skill Development: * Plan and execute practices that prioritize fundamental skill acquisition (passing, setting, serving) and maximize “touches” for all 15+ athletes.
            • Simplify complex volleyball concepts into digestible instructions suitable for developing middle school players.
            • Ensure equitable playing time and development opportunities for all team members, regardless of experience level.
          • Program Alignment: * Collaborate with the Varsity Head Coach to ensure vertical alignment of terminology, mechanics, and fundamental strategies.
          • Student-Athlete Management: * Supervise and ensure the safety of student-athletes during practices, matches, and travel.
            • Act as a positive role model and mentor, focusing on character development and helping student-athletes become the best version of themselves.
          • Administrative Duties:

            • Communicate effectively with parents and school administration regarding schedules and expectations.

          Required Qualifications & Experience

          • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
          • Experience: Previous experience coaching or playing volleyball. Experience working with middle-school-aged children (grades 7–8) in a pedagogical, camp, or athletic setting is highly desirable.
          • Coaching Philosophy: A demonstrated commitment to teaching core mechanics (proper footwork, court positioning, rotations) in a supportive, inclusive environment.
          • Certifications: Candidates must possess (or be able to acquire prior to the season) the following:
            • NYS Coaching License (or Temporary Coaching License).
            • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.
            • Heads Up Concussion Certification.
