Harley School Hosted Inaugural Medical Careers Day: Inspiring Future Healthcare Professionals

The Harley School successfully hosted its inaugural Medical Careers Day on Saturday, April 26, providing a free and informative event for individuals in grades 7-12 interested in exploring the diverse world of healthcare. The event took place at The Harley School campus.

“The Harley School is committed to providing enriching educational experiences that inspire and empower the next generation of leaders. Medical Careers Day was a testament to this commitment, offering a unique opportunity to explore the rewarding field of healthcare,” stated Dr. Kathryn Kaiser, Interim Head of School.

Medical Careers Day offered attendees a unique opportunity to engage with leading healthcare professionals from the Rochester area. The day featured panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities, providing valuable insights into various medical careers, the path to medical school, and the evolving landscape of healthcare.

“We were incredibly excited to host Medical Careers Day and offer this unique opportunity to our students and the wider community,” said Marissa Desiena, Head of Upper School at The Harley School. “This event embodied our commitment to fostering curiosity and providing real-world experiences that help students discover their passions. By connecting directly with leading healthcare professionals, attendees gained invaluable insights into the diverse career pathways available and the impact they can have on improving lives.”

Event Highlights Included:

The event featured compelling Panel Discussions, including “Exploring Healthcare Careers” with a diverse group of physicians, surgeons, public health experts, social workers, and more. Another panel, “Your Path to Medical School: College Admissions and Beyond,” offered insights from the Associate Dean of Admissions at URMC. During Lunch and College Tables, representatives from St. John Fisher, SUNY Brockport, and the University of Rochester were available to answer questions. In the Afternoon Sessions, attendees could choose from a variety of workshops covering topics such as The Impact of Technology on Healthcare, Ethical Considerations in Medicine, a Hands-on Medical Procedures Workshop, Mindfulness for Future Healthcare Professionals, Hack Your Health: Level Up Your Well-being, and The Science of Addiction.

Networking Opportunities: Attendees connected with professionals and learned about various career paths in healthcare.
