Reconnecting: Brendan Larrabee ’06, P ’40

For alumnus Brendan Larrabee ’06, P ’40, the journey since graduation has been anything but linear — and that’s exactly how he likes it.

Over the years, Brendan has built a career that spans optics manufacturing, process improvement at large corporations, clinical research, and now real estate investment alongside his wife. The latest chapter has brought an unexpected and meaningful reward: more time with his four children, including one current Nursery Red student at Harley.

“The flexibility that comes with managing real estate allows me more time with my four kids, while my wife grows her interior design business” he shared, a priority that clearly sits at the center of his life today.

Outside of work, Brendan finds joy in skiing, weightlifting, weekends at the lake, and simply being with his family. He also remains committed to supporting organizations that strengthen the community, including Heritage Christian Services, Mary Cariola Children’s Center, and Daystar Kids.

Looking back, Brendan credits Harley with helping shape both his curiosity and adaptability. “I find joy in learning new things,” he said. “Looking back, Harley did an excellent job in preparing me for the next stage in life.”

Some memories remain especially vivid nearly two decades later — including the “bright intensity” that legendary teacher Richard Thorley (Science, 1995-2012) brought to chemistry class. Brendan recently returned from reconnecting with another important part of his Harley experience: a trip to Scotland to reunite with Phil, the host brother he met during Harley’s Scottish Exchange program.

For Brendan, the strength of Harley has always been its community. He remembers how often classmates gathered outside of school and hopes future students continue that tradition.

“The community that Harley has always been is its strength,” he said. “I hope future students recognize the uniqueness of it and carry it forward.”

Asked to describe the Class of 2006 in three words, Brendan chose: lively, united, entrepreneurial.

And as he looks ahead, Brendan is most excited for something simple and profound: “Watching my kids become what they are.”
