The booklet “An Experience of Worth” was first published in 1967 for Harley’s 50th year. I found a later iteration of it from the 1970’s too. It is a marketing piece showcasing Harley’s Upper School experience. (For our alumni who attended Harley in that era, you might find a person or two you recognize. I’m pretty sure that’s Gail McGuire (Science, 1965-2000) in the “faculty” section.)

Take a look and then compare the ideas to our recent enrollment piece:

Now check put the latest upper school marketing piece for Harley’s enrollment office. For our more recent grads, take a look and I’m sure you’ll find some familiar faces as well:

Across more than half a century, Harley’s vision for education has remained both steady and bold. In 1970, the School affirmed a belief in intellectual independence, responsibility, and learning as an experience of intrinsic worth—preparing young people to navigate a world defined by constant change.

Today, that philosophy lives on in a vibrant, contemporary expression that champions curiosity, collaboration, creativity, and civic engagement in an increasingly interconnected world.

Though the language has evolved, the promise has not: a Harley education shapes thoughtful, ethical, and self-directed individuals who are prepared not only for college and careers, but for lives of purpose, meaning, and impact.

A Love of Learning: Laurie Miller ’66

Staying Relevant: Paul Mokdessi ’77

When Paul Mokdessi ’77 thinks back on his time at Harley, what stands out isn’t just what he learned—it’s how he learned to think. Paul entered Harley in Grade 7 at just 11 years old, commuting each week from Warsaw, nearly 50 miles away. Mondays meant a drive to...
